Events take a heavy toll on resources, society and the environment. They can generate significant waste, put a strain on local resources like water or energy and generate substantive amounts of carbon emissions. The Event Sustainability Management Systems, ISO 20121, launched in June 2012, are designed to help organizations improve the sustainability of their event related activities, products and services. Every year, the United Nations observes World Day Against Trafficking in Persons at the end of July. This year, in honour of the day, we are hosting a webinar on how this issue is being addressed by the meetings industry. Human trafficking is a global issue, and one where tourism and meeting professionals, when trained on identifying and reporting suspicious behaviour, can be part of the solution. In this webinar we'll learn about how hotels are adopting the Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct, the travel industry’s commitment to fight child trafficking, and how they are training employees on what to do if they suspect a victim of trafficking is in their hotel property.
